Summer Projects

Summer is Here!

Gettin’ Hot Yet? I have your summer project ideas right here to keep you cool inside and let me do the sweatin’!

I have had lots of calls for window air conditioning units.  It’s a great way to cool a particular room that is warmer than others during the summer, or cool a larger portion of your house if you don’t have a central AC unit.  There are so many to choose from, so let me help you figure out which size you need for the square footage you need to cool. And contrary to popular belief, many window AC units these days aren’t as energy sucking as they used to be. In fact, most of the ones I’ve installed have actually been Energy Star certified! They are also quite reasonably priced.

Don’t fight the summer heat – stay cool and comfortable! I’ll be glad to give you a same day quote when you call or email me.

It’s also that time of year to be spending plenty of time outside with friends and family.  Is your deck ready for the traffic? Are there lots of splinters and it hasn’t seen any stain or sealer in years? Let’s do it! I’ve got several planned to completely re-sand, re-stain and re-seal.  And it’s much cheaper to do some maintenance on it now than to have to tear it all out and redo it!   We can also power wash and re-stain if you prefer.

And don’t forget about the structural stability! Let us check our your loose, creaky or warped boards to make sure no one gets hurt while enjoying the summer on your deck. We can also fix your warped handrails and top rails.

Did you clean your gutters earlier in the spring? Have you noticed them running over or worse – water damage on your soffits? Let me get up there and get that flowing correctly to reduce the chances of damage to your home. We can even install some protective barriers over the gutters to greatly reduce the amount of debris that builds up year-round.  Already have damage? Let me come assess what needs to be replaced and repaired to keep it from getting worse!

One last idea to make your house look great this summer: Spiff up your front door!  I will take the door off, give it a good scrubbing with soap and water, sand as needed, and put a fresh coat of paint on it. It’s amazing how inviting a good looking front door can be to your friends and family! We can touch-up the paint around the trim and jamb too so it will look like you have a brand new front door!

Of course this is only a few ideas to get you thinking about what you need around the house this summer. Check out my (almost) all-inclusive list of services we provide, and of course the new “Remodel Ideas” page. There will be more added soon, so add your email address at the top of the page and stay apprised of specials and new additions!  Thanks for reading and enjoy your summer!!

Refurbished deck

This was a fun project.  Several summers ago when the homeowners first moved in to their house, they budgeted to do a few repairs each summer to their deck and landscaping. We sanded down the boards, replaced 4 rotten ones, and then gave everything a nice coat of Sherwin Williams Deckscapes paint/stain combo. It’s tintable so they were able to pick the color they wanted and it came out nice.  We also rebuilt their seat along the edge of the deck and stained it too.

This last summer they were ready to have all new boards installed on the main deck.  After ripping up the tired, old pressure treated lumber, we replaced it with all new already-stained brown pressure treated wood from Home Depot. They also have some pesky neighbors, so we built a lattice backdrop with pressure treated wood to help give them some privacy on spring and summer evenings.

The last picture is two custom-made planters made out of some left-over decking material. It was our gift to them for being a great customer over the years. (We also completely rebuilt the sprinkler system that was originally installed in 1983 and was in bad shape. Just don’t have pics of that big project!)

As long as it’s fairly dry for at least a week, winter could be a great time to replace your deck boards! We would be glad to come by and take a look at your project, and get everything done now so when spring sneaks up on you and you want to spend time on the deck, it’s beautiful and ready for company.  Click the contact button at the top of the page and tell us about your project.

Enjoy the pictures.

The photos display the finished installation of a top of the line Evergrain composite deck and pathway/step lights installed over the winter of 2009. We had to rebuild most of the structure because of weather rot. But once we put the new joists on, we used a special coating on the joists to make them last LOTS longer. We also found even with 6 inches of snow on the deck, after a little shoveling and direct sunlight, that deck was dry in an hour!  Our clients were very happy!

We can install or resurface a deck at your home too. Please contact us for more information or call (316) 243-8288.
